QA-120, 6 December 2020, Statement of the Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hami Aksoy in Response to a Question Regarding the News in the Greek Press that Turkey has Increased its Military Activities in the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Before the EU Summit

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 06.12.2020

The press reports in question are inaccurate. Quite to the contrary, it was Greece that continued her provocative and escalatory military activities by announcing that she will carry out 24 military operations in the Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean with “11 NAVTEX” and “12 NOTAM” announcements since 20 October 2020.

Greece keeps dialog channels closed also on military issues and prevents NATO Secretary-General’s de-confliction initiative from being carried out. As a matter of fact, Greece has not participated, since 9 October 2020, in the meetings planned to be held by NATO Military Authorities.

Greece cannot solve her bilateral issues with Turkey by relying on others, but only by sitting at the table and through dialogue and cooperation with Turkey.
