The application of Bosnia and Herzegovina for membership to the European Union, which was made on 15 February 2016, was accepted today (20 September).

We welcome the decision taken at the EU General Affairs Council meeting, which brings together the Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States. Turkey hopes that Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country which has successfully fulfilled the criteria for candidacy and whose application for membership has been accepted, will also conclude its upcoming accession negotiation process successfully. Turkey will continue to lend its support for the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina with all the Euro-Atlantic institutions.
